Ryanair will discontinue its direct connection between Podgorica and Berlin in its summer 2027 schedule, ending a twice-weekly service that has linked Montenegro with the German capital since 2016.
The withdrawal follows the airline’s decision to close its seven-aircraft base in Berlin and reduce capacity at the German capital’s airport. The route cancellation is therefore part of a wider network restructuring rather than a withdrawal targeting Montenegro specifically.
The loss of the connection affects Montenegro’s access to one of Europe’s largest outbound tourism markets. Low-cost flights support independent travel, short breaks and price-sensitive visitors, while Germany remains an important source market as Montenegro seeks to diversify its visitor base beyond traditional regional markets.
The decision comes as Air Montenegro prepares to expand its European network with planned services from Podgorica to Frankfurt, Brussels and Zagreb.
The planned Frankfurt connection could provide additional links with Germany, but it serves a different market and will not fully replace the direct Berlin service.
The removal also exposes Montenegro’s dependence on airline network decisions made outside the country. For hotel and tourism investors, the availability of alternative routes and competitive airport infrastructure remains important as airline capacity can change rapidly.
No estimates of the expected reduction in passenger numbers or tourism revenue resulting from the cancellation have been disclosed. Unless another airline takes over the route or introduces replacement capacity, Podgorica will have no direct Ryanair connection to Berlin during the summer 2027 season.
