Montenegro welcomed more than 2.66 million tourists and recorded over 14.8 million overnight stays during the first nine months of 2026, with both indicators increasing by more than 9% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.
According to Tourism Ministry figures, tourist arrivals grew by more than 10% year on year, while overnight stays increased by approximately 9%.
September recorded particularly strong results, with arrivals rising by nearly 19% and overnight stays by almost 15%. Both indicators exceeded their September 2019 levels by more than 20%. The growth supports investment prospects across Montenegro’s hotel, aviation and hospitality sectors, as the country continues efforts to extend tourism activity beyond the main summer season.
Higher demand during the shoulder season can improve hotel occupancy and spread fixed operating costs across a longer period. September’s results indicate increased visitor activity outside the peak summer months.
Tourism Minister Simonida Kordić has warned that changes to visa requirements in several important source markets could affect tourism demand in 2027. Russia and Türkiye are among the countries affected by tighter entry conditions. The impact on visitor numbers will depend on the speed of visa processing, available airline connections and the ability of tourism operators to attract visitors from the EU and other markets to compensate for any decline in demand from affected countries.
Although the latest figures demonstrate substantial growth in tourist volumes, they do not include comparable data on accommodation revenues or average room rates, leaving the financial performance of the sector separate from the reported increase in arrivals and overnight stays.
