Montenegro’s payment infrastructure processed €2.40 billion in transactions during August across its RTGS, DNS and Instant Payment System (IPS) networks, following the launch of IPS on July 20. The total value of transactions increased by 5.46% compared with August 2025, although it was 8.42% lower than in July.
RTGS accounted for 87.96% of the total transaction value, reflecting its role in processing larger payments. DNS handled the highest number of orders, processing 853,715 transactions, equivalent to 57.73% of all payment orders. The payment-system figures contrast with activity on the Montenegro Stock Exchange, where monthly turnover amounted to just €1.56 million in August.
While the payment networks processed €2.40 billion in transactions, stock-market trading remained limited in comparison. The two figures reflect different segments of the financial system, with payment infrastructure supporting the movement of money and the stock exchange providing a market for traded securities.
The launch of IPS represents a development in Montenegro’s payment infrastructure, while the scale of stock-market turnover shows the different level of activity in the domestic securities market.
