Montenegro is preparing to reopen the K7 cableway connecting the Kolašin 1600 and Kolašin 1450 ski resorts after completing ground-stabilisation works near one of its support towers. The reopening could restore access to approximately 10 kilometres of ski runs that have been unavailable for two seasons.
State-owned operator Skijališta Crne Gore said the civil works were completed, allowing preparations for technical inspection and servicing. The cableway, developed with nearly €9 million in public investment, has been closed since spring 2024 because of ground instability.
The repair contract was awarded to Podgorica-based M Solutions in June 2026 for €114,035 excluding VAT, following several unsuccessful procurement attempts. The government had previously allocated approximately €150,000 for stabilisation works.
Skijališta Crne Gore executive director said representatives of manufacturer Doppelmayr were expected to inspect the installation. Reopening remains conditional on satisfactory technical inspections and maintenance.
Other infrastructure and commercial issues remain unresolved. Kolašin 1600 is expected to operate without artificial snowmaking, as the separate €9.18 million water-supply and snowmaking project, contracted in January 2023, remains unfinished following a dispute and termination involving the original contractor, Sigillum CO.
The two ski operators have also not agreed on a common ski pass and revenue distribution. Skijališta Crne Gore has proposed a €40 joint daily pass, with revenue allocated according to recorded use of each resort’s facilities. The private operator has not accepted the proposed mechanism, while a standalone daily pass for Kolašin 1600 is expected to cost €30. Restoring the cableway could improve access to ski terrain and support hotels, restaurants, transport companies and other businesses dependent on winter tourism in northern Montenegro.
