Montenegro recorded more than 124,000 tourists on 9 July, representing an increase of approximately 8% compared with the same date in 2025. During the first five months of 2026, the country welcomed more than 600,000 tourists, generating around 3 million overnight stays. Both tourist arrivals and overnight stays increased by approximately 1% year on year during the January-May period.
Revenue collected from tourist taxes, accommodation charges and membership contributions exceeded €1.8 million, marking growth of approximately 12% compared with the previous year. The increase in tourism-related revenues was higher than the growth rate of visitor numbers, with the latest figures showing stronger collection performance alongside higher accommodation prices or a gradual shift toward more formal and higher-value accommodation.
Tivat records stronger hotel performance
The strongest local tourism indicators came from Tivat, which hosted approximately 8,320 tourists on 12 July. The figure was 5% higher than in 2025 and 4% above 2024 levels. Hotels in Tivat accommodated around 1,370 guests, representing growth of 6% year on year and 16% compared with 2024. Private accommodation remained the dominant segment, with approximately 6,770 guests, an increase of 4% compared with the previous year.
Foreign visitors dominate Tivat market
Foreign tourists accounted for almost 99% of Tivat’s registered tourist population. The largest group of visitors came from Serbia, with around 2,180 tourists, followed by Russia with approximately 1,340 visitors. Other important source markets included the United Kingdom, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Türkiye, Germany, the United States, Croatia and Sweden.
A planned direct air service between Tivat and Madrid, starting on 18 July, will introduce an additional Western European connection during the peak summer season. The route will expand Montenegro’s air links with another European market during the main tourism period.
