The Vrulja – Mijakovići road has officially opened to traffic. This 7.5-kilometer section cost over €7.5 million (€7,697,497.53 including VAT) to construct. The project included a 6.5-meter-wide carriageway and the construction of two bridges measuring 128 and 160 meters in length.
At the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić highlighted that the new road reduces travel time from Pljevlja to Podgorica by about half an hour, bringing the journey to just over two hours.
- “The Vrulja – Mijakovići section is important not only for better connecting Pljevlja with central Montenegro but also for balanced regional development, as it opens new opportunities for tourism and economic growth in this area,” Spajić said. He emphasized that the new road network gives the northern region a strong development boost, which will reach its full potential with the construction of the second phase of the Bar-Boljare highway.
The Prime Minister also announced that with the start of the new year, works will begin on the Pljevlja – Dajevića Han route, and the reconstruction of the Tara Bridge will bring new tourism potential to this part of Montenegro. “With all other government-financed projects in Pljevlja, we will provide a strong infrastructural impulse and implement investments that the citizens of Pljevlja have long deserved,” he added.
Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević noted that the opening of Vrulja – Mijakovići represents a significant step in improving the transport connectivity of Pljevlja Municipality.
- “In addition to this road, we are implementing several other projects in Pljevlja. Reconstruction of the Đurđevića Tara Bridge is ongoing, and early next year, work will start on the Pljevlja – Dajevića Han regional road, valued at €4.7 million. We also plan to reconstruct the Pljevlja – Metaljka road, 15 kilometers in total. These projects confirm our commitment to modernizing the road network and ensuring balanced development in northern Montenegro,” Vukićević said.
Director of the Transport Administration Radomir Vuksanović stated that with the completion of the roads from Pljevlja towards Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the construction of Vrulja – Mijakovići is a key milestone, significantly reducing travel time to Podgorica. He also announced that work on the Pljevlja – Dajevića Han road will begin early next year.
