Montenegro recorded €628.05 million in foreign direct investment inflows during the first eight months of 2026, an increase of 5.49% compared with the same period a year earlier. Net FDI declined by 1.99% to €296.64 million as total outflows grew by 13.23% to €331.42 million.
Withdrawals by non-residents accounted for €252.96 million of the outflows, while resident investment abroad amounted to €78.46 million.
Investment in domestic companies and banks increased by 31.38% to €89.06 million, representing growth in this component of foreign capital inflows.
Real estate investment remained the largest category, reaching €319.01 million. A further €202.11 million came through intercompany debt. The figures show that higher gross FDI inflows did not translate into an increase in net investment, as capital outflows expanded at a faster rate. Real estate and intercompany financing continued to account for substantial portions of incoming foreign capital, alongside the rise in investment in domestic companies and banks.
