Montenegro’s latest agricultural investment activity is increasingly focused on storage, refrigeration and packaging, with new IPARD procurement notices covering potato storage, preservation and packaging, refrigerated transport and agricultural machinery.
New IPARD tenders target post-harvest infrastructure
IPARD procurement notices published on September 30 include contracts for the construction and equipment of potato storage, preservation and packaging facilities, as well as a refrigerated delivery vehicle and additional agricultural machinery.
The new notices follow recent tenders covering egg sorting and storage, cold rooms and refrigerated transport. The investment pipeline is expanding infrastructure between agricultural producers and the retailers and food processors purchasing their products.
Storage and refrigeration support agricultural sales
Post-harvest infrastructure covering storage, grading, packaging and refrigerated delivery can allow farmers to retain products for longer periods and manage the timing of sales. Without such facilities, producers may have to sell quickly, accept lower prices or face difficulties maintaining consistent supplies to larger buyers.
Cold storage, packaging lines, refrigerated vehicles, warehouse technology and specialised food-logistics services therefore form part of the emerging investment market. Improved post-harvest infrastructure can also reduce losses from products that spoil quickly or lose quality during storage and transport.
Equipment creates opportunities beyond initial investment
For retailers and food processors, improved logistics can support more reliable domestic supply. Formal buyers increasingly require predictable quantities, standardised packaging, traceability and fixed delivery schedules, rather than irregular farm-gate deliveries.
The infrastructure investment can help smaller agricultural producers supply supermarkets, processors and institutional customers. Equipment suppliers can also benefit from demand for cold rooms, temperature-monitoring systems, sorting lines and packaging equipment, which require installation, servicing and replacement parts after the initial investment. The latest procurement notices have bid deadlines mainly in October, translating agricultural support into orders for construction and equipment.
