Chinese electric-vehicle manufacturer BYD is expanding its operational infrastructure in Montenegro, with activities now extending beyond vehicle sales into customs clearance, warehousing, transport, servicing and spare-parts logistics.
BYD expands its local operating network
When BYD opened its first showroom in Podgorica in early September, the company reported around 220 pre-orders, 160 vehicle deliveries and approximately 5% market share during its first six months in Montenegro. The company has also established a service centre in Danilovgrad. A recruitment notice published on September 30 indicated that the local business is developing dedicated capacity for vehicle customs clearance, bonded warehousing, transport, import documentation and final delivery to customers.
Logistics infrastructure extends beyond vehicle imports
The expansion is creating demand for services associated with the operation of an international automotive brand, including customs brokerage, vehicle storage, transportation, technical servicing, diagnostics and spare-parts logistics. The developing ecosystem includes potential activity for vehicle-logistics companies, bonded warehouses, customs agents, workshops, fleet managers and specialist technicians. After-sales infrastructure is particularly relevant for automotive brands without an established local history, as spare-parts availability and servicing can influence customers alongside vehicle price and technology.
Electric vehicles require specialised servicing
Electric vehicles require workshop capabilities covering areas such as high-voltage systems, battery diagnostics, software and electronic power systems. The development of these capabilities could create demand for specialised automotive training and technical expertise.
Fleet operators represent another potential area for BYD’s expansion. Rental companies, corporate fleets and other high-mileage users place particular emphasis on operating costs and service availability. A local after-sales network can therefore support the company’s operations beyond individual retail customers. BYD’s reported sales and pre-order figures during its first six months in Montenegro have been accompanied by investment in dedicated logistics and service capacity, covering the movement, delivery and ongoing maintenance of its vehicles.
