Budva is hosting approximately 36,000 visitors, according to the latest local tourism data, providing a strong start to Montenegro’s peak summer season. The figure was announced by Milan Tičić, director of the Budva Tourism Organisation, who said the number of visitors was expected to increase further during the Statehood Day holiday. Foreign tourists account for a significant share of the current visitor population.
Events programme extends beyond peak summer months
Budva plans to continue its programme of events throughout the summer and into September. The schedule includes Petrovačka Night, the Sea Dance Festival and additional music events aimed at supporting tourism activity beyond the traditional July and August peak.
Tourism performance measured beyond visitor numbers
National statistics show that Montenegro’s collective accommodation sector recorded 169,877 tourist arrivals and 506,256 overnight stays in May 2026. The figures indicate an average stay of just under three nights, highlighting the importance of increasing visitor stays and tourism spending beyond accommodation services.
Luxury tourism investments reshape coastal market
Montenegro’s coastal tourism sector has attracted substantial investment through major integrated resort developments. Combined investment in Porto Montenegro, Portonovi and Luštica Bay exceeds €2.2 billion, including more than €923 million invested in Porto Montenegro, approximately €835 million in Portonovi and around €447 million in Luštica Bay. These projects have strengthened Montenegro’s presence in luxury tourism, yachting and branded real estate.
Seasonal labour costs continue to increase
The tourism sector is also experiencing higher labour costs during the summer season. Entry-level monthly salaries for seasonal workers, including waiters, cooks and housekeeping staff, are commonly reported at €900–€1,000, with accommodation and meals frequently included as part of employment packages. The increase in labour costs coincides with continued seasonal demand across Montenegro’s hospitality industry.
