Air Montenegro is preparing to expand its regional network with a planned direct connection to North Macedonia, adding to its broader route development programme covering European and Balkan destinations.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister and North Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister. The two governments said the connection could strengthen tourism, business travel and wider economic cooperation.
Details of the proposed service have not yet been confirmed. No launch date, operating frequency, airport endpoints or ticket prices have been announced.
The potential North Macedonia connection comes alongside Air Montenegro’s preparations to introduce additional services from Podgorica to Brussels, Frankfurt and Zagreb under Montenegro’s Public Service Obligation (PSO) programme.
The expansion would cover both regional and European markets, with the proposed route expected to facilitate short-stay tourism, corporate travel and passenger connections between Montenegro and North Macedonia.
A direct connection between Podgorica and Skopje would eliminate the need for connecting flights or lengthy road journeys between the two markets. The commercial viability of regional services will depend on passenger demand and the ability to maintain sufficient occupancy throughout the year, including outside peak travel periods.
Air Montenegro recorded more than €2 million in profit during the first nine months of 2026, providing a stronger financial position for network development despite increasing fuel costs.
The North Macedonia connection remains a proposed service rather than a confirmed scheduled route. Its implementation will depend on further decisions concerning the airports served, operating frequency, launch timetable and whether the service will operate commercially or receive public financial support.
