All conditions are set to begin the reconstruction of the Đurđevića Tara Bridge, one of Montenegro’s most important architectural landmarks and tourist attractions, located in the Tara River canyon.
Following the signing of a supplementary agreement between Montenegro’s Ministry of Transport and the People’s Republic of China, the reconstruction work will officially start, with a completion deadline of eight months. The project is funded by a Chinese donation valued at approximately 6.64 million euros (51.8 million Chinese yuan), and the contractor will be a Chinese company in cooperation with local partners.
Miroslav Mašić, acting director of the Directorate for State Roads, stated that the reconstruction aims to minimize disruption to tourism and traffic flow. The bridge’s traffic will be partially limited during construction, with alternating one-way traffic controlled by traffic lights, allowing only passenger vehicles. Full closures will occur only during the installation of scaffolding, timed to avoid peak tourist season.
The protected bridge will retain its original dimensions but will be fully restored to extend its lifespan and improve its aesthetic appearance. The project also includes reconstruction of 250 meters of access roads on both sides of the bridge and creation of a new parking area to enhance the tourist experience.
Additionally, repairs on a landslide near Sokolovina on the Đurđevića Tara – Mojkovac route are expected to be completed by the end of the year, further boosting regional development.
