The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, announced that he had discussed with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, the support the bank will provide for the continuation of the Bar-Boljare highway construction project.
Milatović emphasized that this is an extremely important project for Montenegro.
“I just had a great meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The EBRD is one of the largest investors in Montenegro. The bank has invested nearly one billion euros so far in the development of our economy. I invited the President to continue supporting the development of Montenegro’s economy in the future,” Milatović said.
He also highlighted that the discussion included the support EBRD provided in the adoption of the Law on the Credit-Guarantee Fund.
“This is a very important law when it comes to better financing for our small businesses. I invited the bank to further assist Montenegro in positioning our country better on the investment map, so that we can attract new investments into our economy, and these are critical issues for both our economy and improving the standard of living for our citizens,” Milatović noted.
The President of EBRD, Odile Renaud-Basso, said that the meeting was an excellent opportunity to discuss the activities of the institution in the Western Balkans, especially in Montenegro.
“We are a very active investor in Montenegro, and last year we had record investments. We have worked on strategically important infrastructure projects, supported the private sector, financed small and medium-sized enterprises, supported the energy sector, worked on policies to establish auctions for renewable energy sources, and improved the business environment. It was a very interesting meeting, and we have a very close partnership with Montenegro,” Basso emphasized.
Milatović stated that Montenegro is dedicated to reforms and is on track to become the next EU member state. He thanked the EBRD for its support to the Montenegrin economy, particularly in the areas of energy and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
