Montenegro and Israel are set to strengthen their tourism ties through a forthcoming bilateral agreement aimed at enhancing cooperation in the travel sector. This initiative was announced following discussions between Montenegro’s Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordić, and her Israeli counterpart, Haim Katz, during Kordić’s visit to Israel for the International Tourism Fair in Tel Aviv.
Both ministers acknowledged the existing positive relations between their nations and the growing collaboration in tourism. The planned agreement is designed to formalize this partnership, facilitating exchanges and supporting initiatives that aim to increase visitor numbers and foster industry collaboration. They emphasized the necessity for ongoing ministerial dialogue and teamwork to advance the agreement.
The talks also underscored Montenegro’s strategic priorities as part of its leadership role in the UN World Tourism Organization’s European Commission. These priorities include hosting international forums, organizing investment-focused events, and promoting collaborative initiatives like the Bridging Destinations program with other regional tourism markets. Such efforts are intended to enhance Montenegro’s visibility and competitiveness in the global tourism landscape.
In recent years, Montenegro has experienced a notable increase in visitors from Israel, attributed to improved direct air connections, a growing preference for Mediterranean destinations, and effective promotional strategies targeting Israeli tourists. The anticipated bilateral tourism cooperation agreement is viewed as a key component of a broader strategy to reinforce economic and cultural relations, promote sustainable tourism flows, and capitalize on shared interests in regional connectivity and investment facilitation.
