Montenegro and Austria are looking to strengthen their economic ties, with a focus on expanding exports, developing production capabilities, and initiating joint investment projects. This was highlighted during a recent business forum held in Podgorica, which was organized by the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro in collaboration with the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
Nina Drakić, president of the Chamber of Economy, emphasized Austria’s significance as a key economic partner and investor for Montenegro. She noted that such forums are essential for fostering direct connections among companies, institutions, and investors, particularly in sectors like transport, logistics, infrastructure, and broader connectivity.
Majda Adžović, Montenegro’s Minister of Public Works, remarked on the foundation of trust that underpins cooperation between the two nations, citing the long-standing presence of Austrian firms in Montenegro. She pointed out that Montenegro is actively modernizing its infrastructure and enhancing its business environment to align more closely with European standards, thereby creating favorable conditions for new investments.
Anna Salehi, trade attaché at the Austrian Embassy, acknowledged the growing interest among Montenegrin businesses in collaborating with Austrian counterparts. The forum facilitated bilateral meetings where companies explored potential partnerships across various sectors including infrastructure, construction, energy, transport, logistics, tourism, healthcare, and more.
This forum reflects Montenegro’s broader economic strategy to elevate its relationship with Austria beyond traditional trade frameworks towards more substantial investment opportunities and project development. The most promising areas for collaboration appear to be those where Montenegro requires external expertise and financial resources—particularly in infrastructure, energy, logistics, and tourism-related initiatives.
