Aerodromi Crne Gore handled nearly 1.5 million passengers from the start of 2026 until early July, representing growth of approximately 17% compared with the same period in 2025, which was already a record year for passenger numbers.
The airport operator expects combined passenger traffic at Podgorica Airport and Tivat Airport to increase by around 18% in 2026, reaching 3.63 million passengers. The company’s projected net profit for 2026 is €13.37 million, compared with an estimated €13.01 million in 2025.
Airline expansion supports traffic growth
Passenger growth has been supported by the opening of the Wizz Air base at Podgorica Airport in late March, which introduced 17 new routes. Additional connectivity has also been provided by traditional carriers, including British Airways and Iberia. The increase in passenger volumes is strengthening the airport operator’s cash-generation outlook and supporting the commercial rationale for investments in terminal facilities, aprons, baggage-handling systems and road access infrastructure.
Rising traffic affects future infrastructure planning
Higher passenger volumes are also increasing the potential value of future concession arrangements or operating partnerships involving Montenegro’s airport infrastructure. The growth in air traffic does not directly translate into equivalent growth in tourism profitability, as the impact on the sector depends on factors including ground transport capacity, accommodation quality, municipal services and visitor stay duration. Passenger traffic is currently expanding faster than Montenegro’s existing physical transport infrastructure, increasing pressure on capacity and service levels during peak tourism periods.
