A tender for selecting a contractor to reconstruct the road from the bridge over Pažanjski Potok to the bridge over the Tara River in Kolašin is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
This 1.1 km long road, which connects the recently completed Mateševo highway to the town, has long been a bottleneck and a major traffic problem, especially after the highway opened. The reconstruction will follow a “design and build” approach, with estimated costs around 2.5 million euros.
The project includes complete renovation of the road, construction of sidewalks, street lighting, and retaining walls. The upgraded road aims to solve one of Kolašin’s biggest traffic issues by improving safety and reducing congestion caused by the highway opening.
The municipal assembly will soon consider a proposal to declare public interest for expropriation of parts of dozens of private parcels within the cadastral areas of Kolašin and Vladoš, necessary for the reconstruction.
Besides technical improvements, the road upgrade holds symbolic importance, showing that infrastructure development must continue beyond the highway exits toward local centers and tourist areas. Quality access roads are essential for Kolašin as a tourist destination.
Additionally, the municipality has initiated procedures to build a city parking garage to address major traffic problems. Seven parcels totaling 2,333 square meters will be expropriated for 611,000 euros. These parcels are located near the town center, close to schools and kindergartens.
No timeline has yet been provided for reconstructing the road from the town to the Klisura tunnel on the regional route from Jezerina to Lubnica, which remains a significant problem for traffic to and from the highway.
