Kolašin is advancing preparations for a €20 million electricity transmission investment designed to strengthen power supply as tourism and real-estate development expands across the municipality. A municipal spatial-planning committee approved the establishment of a working group tasked with developing a new 110 kV two-way electricity supply system and the planned 110/35 kV Drijenak substation.
The project also covers the Kolašin-Mateševo transmission line. The overall investment is estimated at around €20 million in the development plans of Montenegro’s transmission system operator CGES. Kolašin currently depends significantly on electricity supplied from the Mojkovac direction. This leaves the municipality exposed to network constraints amid the expansion of tourism, hotel capacity and residential construction.
The planned transmission infrastructure would provide a second electricity supply route and strengthen reliability for the municipality as well as the Kolašin 1450 and Kolašin 1600 ski areas. Electricity demand in the wider Kolašin area is increasing as new hotel, apartment and tourism projects are developed. CGES submitted a construction request earlier in 2026, while the latest municipal decision moves forward the planning and coordination required for the project’s implementation. The planned grid investment is intended to support the electricity requirements associated with further tourism and real-estate development in Kolašin.
