Iberia has launched a new direct air connection between Madrid and Tivat, introducing a new Western European route to Montenegro during the peak period of the country’s tourism season. The Spanish airline began operating the service on 18 July, using Airbus A320 aircraft on Tuesdays and Saturdays until 15 September.
The seasonal programme provides a total of 6,300 seats over the two-month operating period. Flight IB865 departs from Madrid at 10:40 and arrives in Tivat at 13:45, while the return flight leaves Tivat at 14:30.
New link connects Montenegro with Spanish market
The scheduled capacity represents approximately 3,150 inbound seats when divided equally between the two travel directions. The new route provides direct access between Montenegro and Spain, while also expanding connectivity through Iberia’s Latin American network.
The service introduces an additional Western European connection for Tivat Airport and contributes to the diversification of Montenegro’s tourism market, which has traditionally relied heavily on visitors from regional, Central European and Eastern European markets.
Hospitality sector expected to benefit from new route
The main commercial impact of the Madrid connection is expected in the Bay of Kotor area, including tourism and hospitality developments such as Porto Montenegro, Luštica Bay, Portonovi and higher-category hotels. The route also supports the positioning of internationally oriented hospitality assets seeking a broader visitor base and increased access to new source markets.
Future expansion depends on seasonal performance
Continuation of the service after September will depend on operational and commercial results, including passenger load factors, ticket yields and the ability of Tivat Airport to handle passenger flows during the busy summer season. The initial operating period provides a limited timeframe for establishing recurring demand, but successful performance during the first season could support an earlier start or an extended schedule in 2027.
