The practice under European directives shows that if colleagues work the same number of hours, employees have the right to ask their employer about salaries, stated Naida Nišić, Montenegro’s Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Dialogue, during an appearance on TV Adria.
“This applies not only to gender pay equality but also to people with disabilities. This practice is already in place in the public sector, and it should extend to the private sector as well,” emphasized Nišić.
She highlighted that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić supports increasing child benefits.
“Opposition proposals must indicate how they can be financed. Otherwise, anyone could propose numerous demands without considering the impact on the budget or Ministry of Finance projections,” Nišić said.
According to the minister, the Law on Foreigners is one of the key pieces of legislation.
“The new law will provide stronger control and a digitalized system. Regarding work permits for foreigners, checks should be completed before arrival to ensure they can obtain residency and work permits quickly. No one should wait 45 days before starting work,” Nišić underlined.
She added that incomplete laws are prone to abuse.
“Recently, we found 40 people registered in a 40-square-meter apartment, which is physically impossible,” Nišić recalled.
The minister noted that efforts will continue to inventory properties that residents of elderly care homes left to the state.
“I believe this process will be completed soon. Centers in Nikšić, parts of Berane, Podgorica, and Budva all have property involved. Once accounts are reconciled, any abuses should be addressed, and those responsible should face consequences for misuse of official positions,” Nišić stated.
She expressed pride in her team and collaboration with social partners.
“The entire process was carried out jointly. The increases in minimum wages and pensions went through this ministry, and I will be proud when the decision on introducing a seven-hour workday is adopted. As for artificial intelligence, it cannot replace humans or take precedence over employees,” Nišić concluded.
