EPCG Solar Gradnja is developing ground-mounted solar power plants with a combined capacity of approximately 40 MW at Kapino Polje near Nikšić, expanding Montenegro’s state-led renewable energy projects. Construction is being carried out in several stages. Support structures have been completed for sections L1, L2 and B1, representing a combined capacity of 20 MW.
Photovoltaic panels covering approximately 4 MW have already been installed at the site. Transformer stations and other electrical equipment are scheduled to be installed as the works progress. A separate construction phase covering another 20 MW, designated B2, is expected to start independently. Steel structures for the photovoltaic panels are being produced at the Nikšić steelworks, connecting the solar development with EPCG’s efforts to restore industrial activity at the former Željezara complex.
EPCG Solar Gradnja has also installed more than 11,000 rooftop solar systems through the Solari 3000+ and Solari 5000+ programmes. Their combined installed capacity is approximately 110 MW. The Kapino Polje project adds larger ground-mounted generation to EPCG’s renewable energy portfolio. The company is also developing solar projects at the Krupac dam, Ozrinići and Štedim. The expanding project pipeline increases the importance of corresponding grid investment, balancing resources and electricity-storage capacity to accommodate additional solar generation and manage potential grid congestion and curtailment.
