The companies Louis Berger and Decom Group, along with subcontractor Geostandard, will be working on the conceptual design for the expressway between Podgorica and Danilovgrad, as announced by the Acting General Director for State Roads, Miroslav Mašić, during a morning program on Gradska RTV.
The Podgorica-Danilovgrad section is part of a much larger project that also includes the route extending to Nikšić, Šavnik, Žabljak and Pljevlja, according to the Directorate for State Roads. They further stated that conceptual designs for the remaining sections are already underway.
“The designer needs to define the corridor for the future expressway, primarily for the spatial plan, which is in its final stages and will be adopted to guide the development of Montenegro until 2040. This will define the corridor for the expressway. We will gain insights into the technical requirements of the route and its cost estimation to help the government decide on financing and the implementation of this project in the near future,” Mašić explained.
The cost of preparing the project is estimated at around €55,000, excluding VAT, while the cost of constructing the section remains to be determined. Mašić mentioned that there are multiple financing models, including budget funds, loans, or public-private partnerships. However, since the project is still in the conceptual design phase, there are no concrete inputs to provide a clearer picture of the project’s direction, costs, or construction methods.
By the end of the year, the selection of a contractor for the construction of the bypass around Budva is expected, Mašić added, also emphasizing that the focus is on continuing the construction of the highway to Andrijevica and the reconstruction of numerous main and regional roads.
