The first phase of construction on the main road Cetinje – Čevo – Nikšić, covering the section from the intersection with the Podgorica – Cetinje road to the exit of Čevo, has been officially completed. The total length of the newly built road is 23 kilometers.
The new road features several technical improvements, including a 7.7-meter-wide carriageway, 0.75-meter drainage gutters, concrete curbs, and shoulders and embankments each 1.5 meters wide. A significant addition is the construction of nearly four kilometers of third lanes for overtaking on the stretches from Cetinje to the Jabuka area and from Čevo to Resna. A new intersection connecting with the Podgorica – Cetinje main road was also built.
The works were carried out by the Nikšić-based company AD “Mehanizacija i programat,” with a contract value of approximately 33 million euros.
This new section not only improves access to Čevo but also creates a functional bypass around Cetinje. This allows traffic heading to Lovćen National Park, Njeguši, and onward to Kotor to be redirected outside the city center, reducing congestion and increasing safety.
The next step involves continuing construction towards Nikšić, along with plans to build the Krstac – Kotor road.
This will establish a completely new route connecting central and southern Montenegro: Nikšić – Čevo – Cetinje – Njeguši – Kotor. The new route is expected to significantly ease traffic on the existing Kotor – Budva – Cetinje – Podgorica road, reduce traffic accidents, and improve access to key tourist destinations.
