Montenegro’s Transport Directorate has announced the start of reconstruction work on the Đurđevića Tara Bridge, a key architectural symbol and tourist attraction located in the Tara Canyon.
Following the signing of a supplementary agreement between Montenegro’s Ministry of Transport and China, construction officially began with a completion deadline of eight months. The project is funded by a Chinese donation worth approximately 6.64 million euros and executed by the Chinese company Shandong Luqiao Group in partnership with local firms.
During the reconstruction, rafting activities on the Tara River will continue uninterrupted, although traffic on the bridge will experience some delays. Traffic will be temporarily stopped during scaffolding installation, scheduled outside peak tourist season, then managed by alternating one-way traffic for passenger vehicles using traffic lights.
The bridge will retain its original dimensions and protected status, with restoration focusing on structural strengthening, aesthetic improvements, and extending its lifespan.
Additionally, access roads of 250 meters on each side and a new parking area will be constructed to enhance tourist facilities.
Work on landslide repairs on the Đurđevića Tara–Mojkovac route is also expected to be completed by the end of the year, further boosting regional development.
