Miloš Konatar, head of the parliamentary club of the Civic Movement URA, stated that the parliamentary majority’s intention to raise the corporate tax rate from 12% to 15% will destabilize the business environment, further harm the economy, and drive price increases that will ultimately be borne by Montenegrin citizens.
Konatar criticized the government’s fiscal strategy, highlighting the pension fund deficit of €232 million and a slowdown in economic growth from 4.8% to below 3%. He pointed out that the previous increase of VAT on tourism services led to higher prices and negatively affected the tourist season. Now, he warned, the same mistake is being repeated with the planned corporate tax hike.
He added that these decisions are being rushed without proper analysis, public debate, or consultation with the Chamber of Commerce and employer associations.
Konatar concluded that Montenegro needs a stable business environment and a tax policy that attracts and encourages investment, not sudden tax increases caused by poor economic policies that will worsen problems at the expense of its citizens.
