The Mayor of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, responded on Instagram to an article published by Pobjeda, where the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Nenad Zečević, wrote in the holiday edition that Nimanbegu had offered five locations for investment to UAE investor Mohamed Alabbar, including the famous Velika Plaža, in a letter sent to the Government of Montenegro and the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism, and State Property on March 26. Nimanbegu did not deny the authenticity of the letter, which was confirmed by the Government, but instead referred to his previous statements before the parliamentary committees.
In his reaction, Nimanbegu claimed that Pobjeda and Prime Minister Milojko Spajić were engaged in a “special war” against Ulcinj. He dismissed the claims made in the newspaper, stating that Pobjeda’s “truths” are short-lived. He pointed out several instances where the newspaper had published false information, such as Ulcinj supporting the megaproject or being against investments. He emphasized that these claims were immediately disproven by the unanimous decision of the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly.
He also addressed the claim that he offered Velika Plaža for investment, stating that it was false and urged the editor to review the committee meeting recordings for clarity. Nimanbegu added that the attempt to portray the project as being in the best interest of the people of Ulcinj had failed, referencing the registration of the company involved.
Nimanbegu concluded by asserting that Pobjeda’s attempts to paint Ulcinj as indecisive had also failed. He expressed confidence that the people of Ulcinj knew what they wanted and were determined to defend their interests. He wrapped up by stating that Pobjeda, like many of its falsehoods, would eventually be “retired,” and that this would happen “in a package with the Prime Minister.”
