The summer season at Tivat Airport began with a strong surge compared to last year. In April alone, the airport recorded 77,870 passengers—an impressive 30.4% increase over the same month in 2024.
A total of 430 aircraft takeoffs and landings were registered during April, marking an 8% rise compared to the same period last year, according to Vijesti.
The IATA summer season in commercial aviation begins in the last week of March and runs until the final Sunday of October. For Tivat Airport, April marked a notable upswing in traffic, both in terms of flights and passengers. This growth was driven in part by the launch of several new seasonal routes and charter flights to various cities across Europe and the Middle East.
Alongside the regular route to Belgrade, the most frequent destinations from Tivat at the start of the season include cities in Israel, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.
From January 1 to May 1, Tivat Airport served a total of 200,260 passengers across 1,360 aircraft operations. This represents an 81% increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year.
This substantial growth comes despite ongoing challenges. Terminal 1 remains outdated and lacks capacity, while road access to the airport has been severely impacted by prolonged construction works on the Jaz–Tivat boulevard—works that were initially expected to be completed by the end of April.
According to previous announcements from the management of Airports of Montenegro (Aerodromi Crne Gore), a total of 50 flight routes will operate from Tivat this summer. These routes will connect Montenegro with destinations across Europe, the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, and Central Asia.
Expectations are high for the rest of the year. Airport authorities anticipate surpassing the record-breaking traffic levels of 2019, with a projected total of around 1.3 million passengers by year-end.
