Tivat Airport handled 129,174 passengers in May, a 21.9% increase compared to the same month last year. There were 1,367 aircraft takeoffs and landings, up 9.7% from May 2024. In the first five months of 2025, the airport served 260,580 passengers, a 20.4% rise compared to the same period last year, with 2,728 aircraft operations recorded.
These strong results were achieved despite limited and outdated terminal facilities and poor road access due to ongoing boulevard construction from Jaz to Tivat.
However, the recent Israel-Iran conflict has severely impacted the airport’s growth. Three Israeli airlines—El Al Israel, Israir, and Arkia—suspended flights to Tivat and other parts of Europe due to the conflict. These airlines had operated about 30 weekly rotations between Tel Aviv and Tivat this summer.
This suspension represents a significant loss for Tivat Airport and Montenegro’s tourism sector, which had seen a notable increase in Israeli visitors this year.
Montenegro Airports management stated they will support potential evacuation flights for Israeli airlines and provide space for parking some of their fleet as possible. Most Israeli commercial aircraft have been relocated from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport to temporary airports in Cyprus, Greece, and the USA.
