The International Monetary Fund (IMF) remains a credible partner of Montenegro, it was announced at the meeting of Finance Minister Aleksandar Damjanović and State Secretary Agron Ibrahimi, with the IMF’s resident representative for the Western Balkans, Stefani Eble.
As announced by the Ministry of Finance, Damjanović said that the basic macroeconomic indicators in the first months of this year recorded a positive trend.
He emphasized that, according to the latest data, revenues are ten percent higher than planned.
Damjanović also emphasized that the smooth functioning of all budget services is ensured for the coming months, and that the results of the summer tourist season, when the budget generates the most revenue, will lay a realistic basis for assessing medium- and long-term financing needs.
Eble noted that global financial conditions remain volatile, causing more expensive borrowing conditions for many developing economies.
“She conveyed the readiness of the International Monetary Fund to provide partnership support to Montenegro, both at the technical level and in the domain of defining a stable macroeconomic and fiscal framework that will ensure the sustainability of public finances in the long term,” the statement said.
The Ministry said that the meeting was an opportunity to exchange information on the overall fiscal environment in Montenegro and to define priority areas of support, in light of the upcoming spring meetings of the World Bank and the IMF in Washington.
