The Tenants Association will launch the first organized model for fair and secure housing, offering stability, security and support to both tenants and landlords, according to a statement from its representatives.
“Tenants in Montenegro have been living in insecure conditions for years, facing high rents, unstable contracts, and insufficient legal protection. On the other hand, landlords often suffer the consequences of irregular payments and uncertainty when renting their properties,” the association’s statement reads.
They explained that the proposed model offers, among other things, a subsidized 12th rent payment. This means that tenants who sign a contract with the association are entitled to a subsidy of up to 300 EUR after regularly paying 11 rents.
The proposed model also provides tenants with legal support. Those who face issues with landlords will receive legal assistance from the association.
Tenants who sign a contract with the association, which plans to begin construction of 100 apartments by the end of next year, will be included on the list of future tenants.
The model the association plans to implement also includes more favorable rental terms, ensuring transparent and stable renting, along with additional benefits that the association will secure through cooperation with state institutions and the private sector.
The Tenants Association has called on tenants to register for membership and secure these benefits. Membership is available to all tenants, regardless of whether they have a formal contract with their landlord.
The association explained that interested parties can sign a membership contract, which grants access to subsidies, legal support, and eligibility for future housing projects. By signing the contract, tenants agree to an annual membership fee of 60 EUR and the regular payment of 11 rents, which will grant them the right to a subsidized 12th rent.
The Tenants Association encourages tenants to secure fairer and safer housing, landlords to participate in the model and ensure secure and regular rent payments, and institutions and the private sector to support the initiative for the regulation of the housing market.
