The substantial increase in foreign direct investment from the United Kingdom in the past year, as well as productive foreign trade exchanges, provide a solid foundation for deepening cooperation in other areas, said Nik Gjeloshaj, the Minister of Economic Development.
During a meeting with British Ambassador Dawn McKen and the Director of the British Council for the Western Balkans, Clare Sears, Gjeloshaj emphasized that expanding cooperation could be achieved in sectors such as tourism, innovation, and education.
The participants highlighted the strong partnership between Montenegro and the UK, underscoring the significant British support Montenegro received during its NATO accession process and in all major reform, democratic, and pro-Western initiatives.
The discussion also covered the importance of the creative economy, with Gjeloshaj supporting the embassy’s ideas in this regard.
Gjeloshaj particularly praised the dedication, expertise, and sincere support provided by the British Embassy in the drafting of amendments to the Law on Free Zones.
“Including British experts in the Working Group for the drafting of amendments to the Law on Free Zones aims to enhance the legislative framework for free zones, aligning it with the most advanced European and Western standards,” said Gjeloshaj.
Ambassador McKen commended the Ministry of Economic Development for its dedicated work in forming the Working Group for the amendments to the Law on Free Zones and offered full support for continued efforts to ensure the group’s success and productivity.
