At a roundtable organized by CEZAP, producers and traders called for a reduction in VAT on processed meats, fish, fruits and vegetables from 21% to 7%. The goal is to find a systemic solution to high food prices through discussions between ministries, producers, traders and food distributors.
CEZAP’s president, Olga Nikčević, emphasized consumer concerns over high prices and called for concrete solutions. CEZAP’s legal advisor, Miloš Vukčević, stated that the aim is to find a systemic approach to lowering prices. A study by the Faculty of Economics showed that taxes and margins increase food prices significantly.
Representatives from ministries mentioned that measures like “Limited Prices” have produced some results. Đorđe Goranović from “MI Goranović” proposed a reduction in VAT, which could lower prices by 14%. Dragan Bokan from Voli supermarket expressed disappointment over the absence of the Ministry of Finance representatives and criticized price caps without consulting the private sector.
