In the first five months of 2025, Podgorica welcomed 67,390 tourists — a 9% increase compared to the same period last year — and recorded 127,920 overnight stays, up by 8%, according to the city’s tourism organization director, Dragan Grnović.
Grnović stated that the summer tourist season began on a strong note, with a 7% rise in June arrivals. However, a notable decline followed in late June and early July due to cancelled flights from Israel, a key source market for Podgorica during the summer.
By mid-July, flight operations normalized, and the tourism sector expects stable conditions for the rest of the season.
Most visitors traditionally come from the region — Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, and Albania — while long-haul markets include China, Israel, Turkey, Russia, the U.S., UK, Germany, and Austria.
Podgorica also boasts a strong hotel infrastructure, with most beds in four- and five-star hotels, catering to business and MICE travelers. When low-cost carriers are more active, three-star hotels and private accommodations also see strong demand.
Grnović emphasized that the season’s success is due to careful planning, marketing campaigns, trade fair participation, and the efforts of local travel agencies to attract more tourists.
