The Montenegrin Tax Administration (PU) collected €707.5 million in gross tax revenues during the first five months of the year, an increase of €4.7 million compared to the same period last year.
VAT revenue reached €203.2 million, up €32.9 million or 19% year-on-year. Corporate income tax collection amounted to €200.4 million, an 8% increase.
However, revenue from social security contributions dropped by €66 million or 29%, totaling €160.6 million. This decline is attributed to reduced contribution rates: from 15% to 10% for employees and from 5.5% to 0% for employers.
Despite the drop in contributions, the increase in other tax categories offset the shortfall, ensuring overall revenue growth.
The PU highlights this as evidence of growing economic activity, improved tax discipline, and the effectiveness of its fiscal measures.
