In the fourth quarter of last year, Montenegro had 315.2 thousand active residents, according to data from Monstat, of which 278.7 thousand, or 88.4%, were employed.
Out of the total active population, 36.5 thousand, or 11.6%, were unemployed.
The number of employed individuals decreased by 3.1% compared to the previous quarter and by 0.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
The number of unemployed individuals increased by 2.5% compared to the previous quarter, while it decreased by 5.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
Of the total active population, 171 thousand, or 54.3%, were men, and 144.2 thousand, or 45.7%, were women.
The survey indicated that of the total number of employed individuals, 150.1 thousand, or 53.9%, were men, and 128.6 thousand, or 46.1%, were women. Among the unemployed, 20.8 thousand, or 57%, were women, and 15.7 thousand, or 43%, were men.
“The largest number of employed individuals are in the age group of 25 to 49 years, totaling 174 thousand. Similarly, the largest number of unemployed individuals belong to the same age group, amounting to 24.4 thousand,” Monstat representatives said.
In terms of sector distribution, the majority of employed individuals work in the service sector (76.1%), followed by the non-agricultural sectors, including industry and construction (19.5%), and agriculture, forestry, and fishing (4.4%).
The survey covered 1.81 thousand households and gathered demographic data for all household members, totaling 4.48 thousand individuals, including 3.96 thousand people aged 15 to 89, with information about their labor activity.
