Milutin Đukanović, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Elektroprivreda (EPCG), emphasized that the “produce where you consume” policy is crucial for the green transition during the Energy Summit in Trebinje. He announced a tender for the procurement of four large battery systems with a total capacity of 120 MWh, alongside ongoing projects for solar, wind, and gas power plants in Montenegro.
Đukanović highlighted the technological advancements in solar energy and battery systems, predicting significant growth in energy production per square meter. He also stressed the importance of utilizing hydroelectric infrastructure for solar power connections to avoid wasting water for electricity production.
Additionally, Montenegro has already secured urban and technical conditions for over 350 MW of solar power, with projects like “Solar 5000+” aiming to expand solar panel installations on public buildings. He also pointed out the need for legislative changes and more efficient administrative processes to streamline energy transition efforts.
