Montenegro’s GDP per capita, adjusted for purchasing power standards, was 51% of the EU average in the past year, according to final data from Eurostat.
According to Montenegro’s Statistical Office (Monstat), Luxembourg recorded the highest GDP per capita in the EU, more than twice the EU average at 237% of the European average.
Bulgaria had the lowest GDP per capita at 64% of the EU average.
Among the countries in the region, Croatia had the highest GDP per capita, at 76% of the EU average, followed by Montenegro at 51%. Serbia’s GDP per capita stood at 49% of the EU average, North Macedonia at 41%, while Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania were both at 36%.
As for actual individual consumption (AIC) per capita, based on purchasing power standards, it ranged from 70% of the EU average in Bulgaria and Hungary to 136% of the EU average in Luxembourg.
GDP per capita is generally an indicator of economic activity, while actual individual consumption is an alternative indicator, better suited to describe the material well-being of households.
