In the previous year, the turnover of businesses in Montenegro amounted to €11.6 billion, as reported by Monstat.
The gross value of production in 2023 was €7.94 billion, with intermediate consumption at €4.45 billion and gross added value at €3.48 billion.
The largest share of turnover came from wholesale and retail trade, as well as the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, totaling €4.98 billion. According to Monstat’s structural survey on business activities in Montenegro, the manufacturing sector accounted for €1.15 billion, while the construction sector contributed €1.13 billion.
The goal of the structural business survey is to calculate indicators necessary for analyzing the activity structure of business entities, input and output structures in the production process, and the business success and competitiveness of economic entities.
Turnover, as explained by statisticians, includes calculated revenues from the sale of goods and services, excluding value-added tax (VAT).
The gross value of production represents the market value of all goods and services produced. Intermediate consumption at purchase prices reflects the value of products and services that are transformed, utilized, or consumed during the production process. Gross added value is the difference between gross value of production and intermediate consumption.
Data for compiling structural business statistics (SBS) and calculating indicators are collected from administrative and statistical sources. The primary administrative data sources include financial statements from businesses and statistical annexes. Other data sources consist of statistical surveys conducted by the Statistical Office, including investments, labor market statistics, short-term statistics (covering construction, trade, and industry), as well as data from the Business Register.
