The agricultural budget of Montenegro for 2025 amounts to €77.06 million, which is about €2 million more than last year’s budget. The budget allocates more funds for direct payments in crop production, the wine sector, rural road and well construction, machinery purchase, pension benefits, and compensation for heifers affected by the bluetongue disease. However, less funding will be allocated for the free distribution of fruits, vegetables, and milk to schools, support for cooperatives and agricultural organizations, sustainable freshwater fishing management, and food safety measures.
The budget will be funded with €56.54 million from the state, €11.02 million in donations, and €9.5 million in loans. Direct payments for agricultural production, livestock, and young farmers will total €19.46 million, which is an increase of €1.31 million from last year. The rural development measures will receive €30.47 million, although this represents a decrease of €2.82 million compared to last year.
Notable increases include funding for the wine sector, which will receive €200,000 this year, double last year’s amount. There’s also more funding for the purchase of breeding livestock, agricultural machinery, and infrastructure development, such as rural roads and water systems. A significant rise in funds, totaling €480,000, is dedicated to supporting livestock that spends at least three months on mountain pastures.
While the budget maintains funding for young farmers and beekeepers, a reduction in funding is noted for food distribution programs to schools and support for cooperatives. Additionally, there will be less allocated for sustainable freshwater fishing and veterinary health measures.
The government aims to continue strengthening agriculture and rural development through this budget, with a focus on direct support for producers and improvements in infrastructure.
