After a valuation is completed, the ships “Kotor” and “21. Maj” will likely begin sailing under different flags, following the formal confirmation by the Shareholders’ Assembly of Crnogorska Plovidba of the Montenegrin Government’s decision to sell both vessels.
As the sole owner of the Kotor-based company Crnogorska Plovidba, the government appointed the State Secretary of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Jovan Šćekić, to carry out the decision.
When asked by Pobjeda whether this move signals the shutdown of Crnogorska Plovidba, Executive Director Vladimir Tadić offered no clear answer, stating that nine people are currently employed at the company. He explained that the system had not been functioning properly and that keeping just one vessel in operation would not be financially viable. He noted that the final decision rests with the government and that restructuring remains a possibility.
In addition to the sale decision, the Shareholders’ Assembly also approved placing a lien on the vessel “Kotor,” which has been docked at the Port of Savannah in the United States for nearly a month. Tadić said that all technical malfunctions on the ship have been resolved, and the vessel is ready to depart. However, existing debts are preventing the ship from leaving the port. The lien will serve as collateral to guarantee repayment of debts, and lawyers and insurance companies have become involved in the process.
Regarding the sale procedure, Tadić explained that the company is currently gathering offers for the valuation of the vessels. Once completed, the sale will be carried out internationally, in a transparent manner and in accordance with all applicable standards.
