The prices of personal consumption products and services, measured by the consumer price index, in January, compared to December last year, were on average 0.4% higher, according to data from Monstat. Compared to the same period last year, prices increased by 16.2%.
– The biggest impact on the monthly inflation rate was the rise in prices in the groups bread and cereals, milk, cheese and eggs, tobacco, hairdressing services and other personal care services, oils and fats, short-term goods for routine household maintenance, meat, other appliances, items and products for personal care – they stated from Monstat.
Consumer prices in the period from January to December 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, are on average 13% higher.
Over the past year, milk, cheese and eggs have risen in price the most – 45.7%, followed by solid fuels whose prices have increased by 43.6%. The price of real rent paid by tenants for their primary residence jumped by 31.1%.
Short-term goods for routine household maintenance went up by 27%, accommodation services by 25.55, and hairdressing services and other personal care services by 25.1%.
Confectionery products are more expensive by 23.6%, and vegetables by 23.2%. The prices of bread and cereals increased by 22.2%, meat by 19.1%, and fruit by 18.8%.
Other appliances, items and products for personal care are 17% more expensive, clothing prices increased by 10.1%, while fuel and lubricants for motor vehicles rose in price by 8.5%.
Observed by the main groups of products and services according to the purpose of consumption, in January 2023 compared to the previous month, growth was recorded in the groups of other goods and services by 2.2%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by two percent, and furniture, household equipment and routine apartment maintenance 1.7%.
– Food and non-alcoholic beverages are more expensive by 1.6%, while prices also increased in the areas of health by 0.9%, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.4%, recreation and culture by 0.1% – the statisticians explained.
The drop In prices was recorded in the clothing and footwear groups by 5.4%, transportation by 0.3%, and restaurants and hotels by 0.1%. The prices of other products and services did not change significantly.
