Significant infrastructure work is underway on roads from Bar to Podgorica and in three other municipalities to transport wind turbine components for the Gvozd wind farm. Sections of roads, roundabouts, signs, and even part of a hill in Skadar Lake National Park have been temporarily modified or removed to allow passage of oversized equipment, including turbine blades, hubs, main shafts, and towers.
The transport is scheduled to begin in late September or early October, primarily during nighttime hours, and specialized equipment will be used. EPCG has obtained necessary permits from the Environmental Protection Agency, the national park, and relevant municipalities. All altered infrastructure will be restored after transport is complete.
The Gvozd wind farm project, including a recent €25 million credit arrangement to expand it to 75.6 MW, is part of Montenegro’s national green transition plan. Once operational, it is expected to generate over 210 GWh annually, supplying more than 35,000 households and reducing CO₂ emissions by nearly 137,000 tons per year.
Temporary road works affect highways M-1, M-1.1, M-2, M-3, and M-6, spanning the municipalities of Bar, Zeta, Podgorica, Danilovgrad, and Nikšić. EPCG emphasizes that all activities are conducted with minimal traffic disruption and that infrastructure will be restored to its original state after transport.
