The amendments to the Law on Maritime Property were introduced to the parliamentary procedure today. The initiative for the changes was proposed by the presidents of all coastal municipalities.
Ulcinj Municipality President Genci Nimanbegu emphasized that this is a significant step in cooperation. He stated that they offered a fair solution and that the law is not politically motivated but democratic. He expressed confidence that the law would be supported, although not rushing to make statements on who will support it.
Iljir Čapuni, a member of the Force party, highlighted that the key change is returning the management of maritime property to the municipalities. He described the reform as an important step toward better management of national resources, aligning with international conventions.
Democrat MP Momčilo Leković noted that this initiative opens a necessary dialogue and process for Montenegrin municipalities, aiming to address the long-standing issue of coastal degradation.
Bar Municipality President Dušan Raičević emphasized that the initiative was justified and reflects the fight for decentralization, uniting around common issues and potential solutions.
Kotor Municipality President Vladimir Jokić called the initiative a significant event and the largest democratic step in Montenegro’s parliamentary life.
Herceg Novi Municipality President Stevan Katić expressed confidence that the amendments will be adopted, stating that the coastal areas have been mismanaged for decades, and Herceg Novi could manage its space much better.
