The municipality of Kolašin in northern Montenegro is set to embark on a significant tourism infrastructure initiative with the construction of a €101 million cable car system. This project aims to enhance connectivity between Kolašin and its nearby ski resorts, marking one of the largest investments in the region’s winter tourism sector. Local government officials have confirmed that the project is fully funded and has progressed to the tendering and implementation phase.
The cable car will link Kolašin directly to the popular ski areas of Kolašin 1450 and Kolašin 1600, featuring several intermediate stations along its route. Vasilije Ivanović, Vice President of the Kolašin Municipality, stated that all necessary conditions have been met for the tendering process, with expectations for the cable car to be operational within two to three years as part of a broader strategy for regional tourism development.
Ivanović emphasized the project’s potential to transform Kolašin’s economy, highlighting it as a pivotal development in terms of investment value and scale. The integration of the town with ski resorts through this cable car is anticipated to position Kolašin as a significant tourism hub, providing easy access from the town center to mountain slopes and creating opportunities for both winter sports enthusiasts and off-season visitors.
The €101 million investment is allocated within Montenegro’s capital budget and will be executed in stages over the coming years. Officials have indicated that all procedural and regulatory hurdles have been addressed, with preparations for the tender process approaching completion.
Local tourism authorities have noted favorable snow conditions and increased visitor interest during the current winter season as key factors supporting the timing of this project.
