The Government of Montenegro approved the Proposal for the Amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, as announced by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Family Care and Demography.
Minister Damir Gutić stated that the amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance propose a measure that would allow the payment of the difference up to the minimum pension for beneficiaries of proportional pensions, whose combined amount of proportional pensions and pensions earned through international agreements does not exceed the amount of the minimum pension.
The amendment, as noted, aims to improve the social protection of beneficiaries who, despite having earned the right to a pension according to international agreements, are unable to secure a minimum income for a dignified life.
“The proposed amendments to the PIO Law aim to increase pensioners’ security and ensure a dignified life for those relying on proportional pensions and pensions granted based on international agreements. Reducing contributions for extended insurance ensures consistency of the legislative framework, simplifies the application of regulations, and provides greater accessibility to extended insurance for citizens,” said Gutić.
He added that financial resources for the implementation of this law have been secured in the 2025 Montenegro budget, amounting to approximately 5.5 million euros.
