Montenegrin Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović participated in a ministerial panel on decarbonization titled “Global Changes: How to Navigate in an Era of Diverging Priorities”, held as part of an international energy conference. The discussion focused on finding a balance between sustainability, affordable energy, energy security, and economic growth in an increasingly complex global energy environment.
Minister Šahmanović emphasized that Montenegro shares common goals with its partners in gradually reducing emissions and transitioning toward cleaner energy sources, stressing that decarbonization must be implemented in a way that protects citizens, ensures energy system stability, and supports economic development.
“The process of energy transition must be fair and sustainable. Our mission is to simultaneously improve citizens’ quality of life, preserve the competitiveness of the economy, and maintain the country’s energy security,” Šahmanović stated.
Addressing global circumstances, he underlined that “experience, especially in times marked by geopolitical shifts, compels Montenegro to act faster and more decisively,” adding that the Government aims to strengthen the resilience of the energy system and implement reforms that secure long-term stability.
Šahmanović highlighted the importance of developing renewable energy projects, noting that the recently launched solar energy auctions represent an important step toward increasing the share of renewables in Montenegro’s overall energy mix and expanding investment opportunities.
“We have made significant progress in aligning national legislation with EU energy law, thereby creating a business environment that is increasingly attractive to foreign investors,” he said, reaffirming that Montenegro intends to remain a reliable and predictable partner in the energy sector.
The Minister also noted that the positive signals from Brussels regarding Montenegro’s progress toward EU membership further encourage reforms and energy projects that contribute to infrastructure modernization and affordable electricity prices for citizens.
Following the panel, Šahmanović, accompanied by State Secretary Dino Tutundžić and Acting Director General Marko Vučinić, visited the exhibition stands of leading global companies, including Microsoft, XRG, ExxonMobil, AIQ, and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
During the visit, discussions were held on the latest technological innovations and potential areas of cooperation. It was concluded that there is significant potential to strengthen and expand partnerships in the fields of energy and digital transformation.
