The government approved the draft law for the ratification of the Air Services Agreement between the governments of Montenegro and Azerbaijan.
The purpose of the law is to strengthen bilateral economic relations between Montenegro and Azerbaijan in areas such as tourism, investment, agriculture, renewable energy sources, as well as transportation and infrastructure, according to a government statement.
The government further explained that the Agreement, signed on February 4, 2023, will come into effect after the contracting parties complete the necessary internal legal procedures. Until then, the multilateral European Common Aviation Area (ECAA) Agreement will remain in force.
The Agreement’s focus is to regulate air traffic to develop cooperation between the two countries in this area and others of mutual interest, the statement adds.
The provisions of the Agreement align with other agreements regulating this area, covering aviation safety and security, tariffs, user fees, and direct transit.
Montenegrin and Azerbaijani airlines designated under the Agreement will have the right to operate regularly in line with the third and fourth freedoms of air transport, allowing an unlimited number of weekly flights for passenger or cargo services in both directions, with no restrictions on aircraft capacity or type, the statement concludes.
