The Ministry of Energy and Mining has recently disbursed €500,000 to the Electricity Market Operator (BELEN) as part of the European Union’s (EU) energy assistance package.
Zvjezdan Vujović, Acting Director-General of the Directorate for Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mining, revealed that the government, during its March 28 session, approved the allocation of direct budgetary support from the European Commission (EC) for maintaining software systems crucial for implementing day-ahead markets in Montenegro.
“After the Ministry of Finance redirected the funds, the Ministry of Energy and Mining promptly transferred €500,000 to BELEN for the upkeep of these software systems,” Vujović informed the Mina-business agency.
Montenegro received €30 million in financial aid from the EC to mitigate the ongoing energy crisis. Among the conditions outlined in the action plan for receiving direct budget support from the EC is the requirement for two years of maintenance of software systems facilitating day-ahead markets.
Vujović emphasized that advancing the day-ahead electricity market is strategically significant for Montenegro’s integration into the unified European electricity market, aligning with obligations outlined in Chapter 15 – Energy.
He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing tangible support to all energy stakeholders in projects vital for Montenegro’s future development.
