With the allocation of radio frequencies from the 5G band worth EUR 8.8 million, Montenegro becomes a leader in the field of telecommunications in the region, which once again shows that we are on the right track, said the Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Goran Đurović on the occasion of the official allocation of approval for the use of radio frequencies operators Crnogorski Telekom, M:tel and One Crna Gora.
He said that Montenegro was the first in the Western Balkan region to conduct an auction for the allocation of radio frequencies and that 5G services are now available to more than 70% of the country’s population.
The spectrum auction for the allocation of radio frequencies from the 5G pioneering bands for public mobile electronic communication networks, in cooperation with the Ministry, was carried out by the Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services in the period from December 20 to 27 last year.
– Total revenues from the allocation of radio frequencies in the public bidding process amount to EUR 8.83 million. Compared to the initial prices, the realized income is higher by EUR 1.08 million or slightly more than 14%. Pursuant to the Decision on the selection of bidders in the public bidding process, mobile operators made payments to the budget of Montenegro in the name of a one-time fee for granting approval for the use of radio frequencies, namely Crnogorski Telekom in the amount of EUR 3.1 million, Mtel in the amount of EUR 2.75 million and One Montenegro in the amount of EUR 2.97 million – it was announced by the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism.
In this way, they stated, the allocation of radio frequencies from the pioneering 5G bands, determined by the Roadmap for the introduction of 5G mobile communication networks adopted by the Government of Montenegro in December 2021, was successfully realized.
– Mobile operators are obliged to meet high requirements regarding the scope and dynamics of signal coverage and the development of the 5G network. The allocation of radio frequencies creates the conditions for the further accelerated development of mobile communication networks and services, primarily through the expansion of signal coverage to a significant part of the currently uncovered rural areas, the increase in the capacity of the access part of LTE networks and the accelerated development of 5G mobile networks in Montenegro – concluded Đurović .
