Consumer prices for personal consumption goods and services, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), were on average 3.9% higher in May compared to the same month last year, according to data from Monstat.
Compared to April, consumer prices in May increased by 0.6% on average.
The largest monthly inflation drivers were price increases in fruit, meat, dairy products (milk, cheese, eggs), accommodation services, oils and fats, clothing, housing maintenance and repair services, and restaurants and cafes.
From January to May, prices were on average 3.1% higher compared to the same period last year.
By main product and service groups, monthly price increases in May compared to April included: restaurants and hotels (+1.9%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.5%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+0.9%), other goods and services (+0.6%), clothing and footwear and health (+0.4%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, and recreation and culture (each +0.2%).
Price decreases were recorded in transportation (-1.5%) and communications (-0.1%).
Prices of other products and services remained mostly stable.
